Lavender Blue is an acrylic and mixed media painting on box canvas measuring 40 centimetres by 50 centimetres (15.75 inches by 19.75 inches). It depicts a blue jug of sprigs of lavender, a beautifully pungent flower (from the mint family) used to aide sleeping, relaxing (aromatherapy), medicinal (disinfectant and antiseptic), cooking and therapeutic uses. Dried lavender flowers are also popular for use at weddings as confetti. It is nowadays often found in many parts of Europe, and still from its origins the Mediterranean, Middle East and India.
The English folk song and nursery rhyme, “Lavender Blue” dates back to the 17th century and the lyrics contain words relating to love.
